Description

1/104 Scale. This kit will molded in blue and clear.  Measures 10.75 inches long. 57 pieces.  Mold is setup for Operation Deep Freeze. This special version also includes collectible trading card #2. Look for the gold sticker!

As used by the US Navy, the P2V-7 served a variety of functions, being easily adaptable to maritime patrol, mine laying, or torpedo bomber duties. It was also used extensively as a hurricane tracker.
During the International Geophysical Year -known as IGY (1957 to 1958) and particularly in connection with Operation Deep Freeze, several Neptunes were equipped with skis and were used by the Navy in the Antarctic.
IGY was a collaborative effort among 40 nations to carry out earth science studies from the North Pole to the South Pole.
The U.S. along with New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Norway, Chile, Argentina, and the U.S.S.R. agreed to go to the South Pole, the least explored area on Earth. Their goal was to advance world knowledge of Antarctic hydrography
and weather systems, glacial movements, and marine life.

    Lockheed P2V-7 Neptune , Kit H170

Posted by Bruce Titus on Mar 20th 2025

I received the P2V-7 Neptune recently and haven't begun assembly yet. On inspection of the parts and some test fitting of the fuselage, I like what I see. If I build this model as a vintage kit with raised riveting and decal placement sites, then this model will look fine. It will be displayed as a stand alone due to its 1:104 scale. I intend to add more detail where I can, but any modifications will be by the builder, since I doubt any after market parts will be available. I have an interest in the Operation Deep Freeze project and the availability of the P2V-7 was a great find. I like the challenge of making a good representation of this historic aircraft.
