The Convair B-36 Bomber, a 385,000 pound example of aeronautical achievement, was the world's largest combat aircraft. Entering service in 1948, the B-36 was the primary nuclear weapons delivery vehicle of Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was replaced by the jet-powered Boeing B-52 Stratofortress beginning in 1955. Four General Electric J-47 turbojet engines paired in 'pods' under the outer wings supplemented six 3,500 hp Pratt & Whitney engines to accomplish over-target speed in excess of 435 mph. Old sliding type bomb-bay doors became obsolete with the installation of the B-36 snapaction doors, which opened or closed in 2 seconds! Pressurized crew compartments forward and aft of the bomb-bay accommodated fifteen men, including a four-man relief crew. Communication and passage between compartments was via a four wheeled cart, which ran in a 25 inch diameter pressurized tunnel extending the entire 85 ft length of the all metal circular middle fuselage structure. The bomber was 162 ft long and had a wingspan of 230 ft. She carried a bomb load of 84000 lb.

B-36 - box full of nostalgia

Posted by Frank V on Jan 22nd 2023

When I was a kid, I built this model in an afternoon. No putty, no paint. Fast forward nearly 60 years and I’m so looking forward to building this beast, properly. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to re-live our youth.

    B-36 1/185 scale reissue

Posted by snoopy on Jan 2nd 2023

Never built this one as a kid, too early for me but having a great itme with it now. No need for detail or hatchs on these old kits, just smooth plastic. Love the ease of sitting in front of my computer and watching Discovery Wings B-36 documentary while building the kit.

Re-pop of venerable old Revell kit

Posted by STEVE B. on Aug 16th 2022

Yes, this can be built up into a beautiful model. But you're going to have to fill many imperfections with putty and do a LOT of sanding: remember this tool's 60+ years old! So it helps if you LOVE this remarkable, certainly one-of-a-kind aircraft.......something originally planned for WW 2 use, but served as a deterrent to Soviet expansion in the early Cold War years. This attitude makes the filling/sanding chores easy to bear with patience. And after all, all the kit's parts are still nicely molded. Recommended!

Nice reissue of classic kit. Will build into a nice desk model. The size of the box is twice as big as it should be. Makes you expect a bigger model inside than what you actually get.

    B36 Peacemaker

Posted by Jim Lieto on Jul 1st 2022

I remember wanting this kit when I was a kid. I was always a little bit short on cash when I saw it, and then it was gone. I judged it on its merit. It’s an old kit. It is what it is, old. It requires some putty to make it look good. I originally built it as I would have when I was a kid. No putty, and then painting it. Well that wasn’t good enough. So yes, I applied some putty and then sprayed it. It’s nice, but not a contest model and much nicer than it would have been when I was a kid. So if you excuse some flash, some imperfections in fit and build it for fun, It’s a home run. I successfully used Tamiya paints, primer and putty with no issues. Thank you Atlantis for bringing back the models from our past, when life was simple.

    B-36 Re-issue

Posted by R.B. Phillips on Dec 13th 2020

This is a wonderful re-issue of the grand old "box scale" Revell B-36. I'm an old man, but still only got to see one B-36 ever, at could get an education in our country's arms by buying these models. Seeing as I did a crappy job on my first one (1958), I'll do it right 62 years later.

One of the best at Atlantis model I have ever done. This is a very responsible price, but lacks detail and no interior. Over all a great model kit.
