Description
U.S.S. Ticonderoga CV-14 Essex-Class Aircraft Carrier Plastic Model Kit
Build a legendary U.S. Navy aircraft carrier with the Atlantis Models U.S.S. Ticonderoga CV-14 Essex-Class Aircraft Carrier plastic model kit.
This impressive 1:500 scale ship kit measures approximately 21 inches long when complete and includes 140 parts. Molded in light gray, the kit comes from classic Renwal tooling and includes a display stand, updated instructions, a flag sheet, and an enhanced decal sheet by Starfighter Decals. Full-color decal placement instructions are printed on the back of the box for easier finishing.
The kit includes an exciting deck loadout with aircraft and accessories, including F9F-8 Cougars with folded and unfolded wing options, A3D Skywarriors, helicopters, Regulus I missiles and launchers, a deck tractor, movable elevators, and a full-hull carrier design. These details make the finished model an eye-catching centerpiece for any U.S. Navy, Cold War, or aircraft carrier collection.
The real U.S.S. Ticonderoga CV-14 was an Essex-class aircraft carrier named in honor of the capture of Fort Ticonderoga during the American Revolutionary War. She was the fourth U.S. Navy ship to carry the name and earned five battle stars during World War II. Later modernized with an angled deck, Ticonderoga continued serving through the Cold War and Vietnam War, earning three Navy Unit Commendations, one Meritorious Unit Commendation, and 12 battle stars for Vietnam service.
Ticonderoga also played a role in America’s space program. In 1972, she recovered the astronauts from Apollo 17, the final crewed mission to the Moon. This combination of World War II service, Cold War modernization, Vietnam combat operations, and NASA recovery duty makes the U.S.S. Ticonderoga one of the most interesting aircraft carriers to add to your model fleet.

In the Vietnam War she earned three Navy Unit Commendations, one Meritorious Unit Commendation, and 12 battle stars. In 1972, the ship recovered 3 astronauts from the Apollo 17 space mission. About the Fort-- Constructed between October 1755 and 1757 during the French and Indian War, Fort Ticonderoga is a large 18th-century star fort built by the French near the south end of Lake Champlain, in northern New York. The Capture of Fort Ticonderoga occurred during the American Revolutionary War on May 10, 1775, when a small force of Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen and Col. Benedict Arnold surprised and captured the Fort's small British garrison. The cannons were then transported to Boston by Col. Henry Knox and used to fortify Dorchester Heights and break the standoff at the Siege of Boston. The capture of the Fort marked the beginning of offensive action taken by the Americans against the British.
