Description

U.S.S. Nautilus SSN-571 Nuclear-Powered Submarine 1:300 STEM Plastic Model Kit

Build the submarine that changed naval history with the Atlantis Models U.S.S. Nautilus SSN-571 Nuclear-Powered Submarine plastic model kit.

This classic 1:300 scale submarine kit measures over 12 inches long when complete and includes 28 parts. Molded in dark black gray and clear, the kit comes with an updated decal sheet, new artwork, detailed instructions, and a special STEM booklet explaining the history of early submarine development. It is a great choice for submarine modelers, U.S. Navy collectors, STEM educators, students, and anyone interested in Cold War technology or nuclear-powered ships.

The real U.S.S. Nautilus SSN-571 was the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine. Commissioned at Groton, Connecticut, on September 30, 1954, Nautilus introduced a new era of underwater endurance, speed, and capability. On January 17, 1955, she sent the historic message: “Underway on nuclear power.”

Nautilus went on to make history again in 1958 during Operation Sunshine, becoming the first vessel to reach the geographic North Pole while submerged beneath the Arctic ice. Her success proved the power of nuclear propulsion and helped shape the future of submarine design. Today, the real Nautilus is preserved as a museum ship at the Submarine Force Museum in Groton, Connecticut, where visitors can experience one of the most important submarines ever built.

This Atlantis Models release combines classic model-building fun with real educational value. The included STEM booklet makes it more than just a display model — it is a hands-on way to learn about submarine history, engineering, naval technology, and the development of nuclear-powered vessels.

Nice kit for an afternoon or evening. Booklet on early atomic submarines is a plus.
