Don “The Snake” Prudhomme (Apr. 6, 1941) a true legend of the sport, concluded his 47th year in drag racing when he retired in 2009. He spent 32 seasons behind the wheel as one of the sports elite drivers followed by 15 seasons as a successful team owner. He began his career crewing for TV Tommy Ivo but by the age of 20, he scored his 1st professional victory in a dragster. In 1965 he was the first to win both the Winter nationals and U.S. Nationals in the same season. He moved from Top fuel to Funny Cars in 1973 and won his 1st Nationals. In 1975 he was first to break the 6 second mark. He went on to set the NHRA Funny Car World Record in 1980, a record he would re-set 2 more times ending in 1988 with a time of 5.305 seconds. Prudhomme did not stop re-writing the NHRA record books despite leaving his role as a driver to become a multi-car team owner. He was inducted into both the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.

“The Snake” 1/24 Rear Engine Dragster Kit
Atlantis has done it again with their recent reissue of Don Prudhomme’s “The Snake” 1/24 scale rear engine dragster kit. The kit is loaded with excellent features, such as a complete chassis, a nicely detailed supercharged engine, driver’s seat and controls, rear wing spoiler and more. Crisply molded white styrene parts pop with detail and lots of excellent chrome-plated parts are included to help set the model apart. The excellent black vinyl drag slicks and narrow front tires look great, with nice lettering and details. The icing on the cake are flexible vinyl fuel lines and ignition wiring harnesses that bring out fine detailing, seldom found in mainstream kits. Beautifully printed full-color decals are a great finishing touch. With neat assembly work and careful painting, this kit will build into show stopper any modeler will be proud of. Of special importance for me is that I built Monogram’s original release of this kit when it first appeared back in the 1970s. I’m absolutely delighted to see it again, along with all of the other fantastic reissues that Atlantis has produced. Kits like this bring back very happy memories for me and they’re the closest thing to a Time Machine I’ll ever have. Thanks, Atlantis! I can’t wait to see what’s next!
