Description

U.S.S. Iowa BB-61 Battleship Plastic Model Kit

Build one of America’s most legendary battleships with the U.S.S. Iowa BB-61 plastic model kit from Atlantis Models.

This impressive 1:535 scale kit measures over 20 inches long when complete and includes 71 parts. The kit features rotating gun turrets, elevating gun barrels, two seaplanes with crane, decals, detailed instructions, and a flag sheet. The classic box artwork is also suitable for framing, making this kit a great choice for builders, collectors, and naval history enthusiasts.

The U.S.S. Iowa BB-61 was the lead ship of the famous Iowa-class battleships, which also included the U.S.S. Missouri, U.S.S. New Jersey, and U.S.S. Wisconsin. During World War II, Iowa served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. In 1943, she carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic on his way to the historic Tehran Conference with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin.

After joining the Pacific Fleet in 1944, Iowa supported major Allied operations by shelling beachheads at Kwajalein and Eniwetok and screening aircraft carriers in the Marshall Islands. Her speed, firepower, and size made her one of the most powerful battleships ever built.

Today, the real U.S.S. Iowa is preserved as a museum ship at the Port of Los Angeles, where visitors can walk her decks and experience a remarkable piece of American naval history.

I built this one a couple of times in my younger days. The kit is as I remember it. Arrived in great condition with only a tiny amount of flashing. This time I am going to do it as it actually appeared during WW2with blue deck and camouflage. Only dislike is no retainer caps for the main turrets. I will have to improvise or use hot screwdriver as suggested in the instructions.

Great re-release of a classic. This mold is 70 years old! And besides a few sink marks and very little flash, this model can be finished straight out of the box with great results. I highly recommend this blast from the past for the novice modeler and the nostalgia builder!
