Classic Cold-War Blast from the Past!

Posted by Rob C on Sep 30th 2025

Like many other Boomers, I was too young to enjoy most of the early model kits from the 1950s, so it is a pleasure to be able to relive them through these incredible Atlantis reissues. Missiles, especially, were largely out of fashion by the early 1960s, when I really started to get into the hobby. The Boeing Bomarc SAM is a legend amongst modelers - even though it’s actual life as a defense system was extremely short-lived - and the Atlantis reissue of the 1959 Revell kit is a beautiful thing. Excellent detail for its time. The missile itself is terrific, but for me the charm of these missile kits is the launch platforms. The Bomarc launch mechanism is just great, a fairly complex structure which is as much fun to build as the main subject. As for the black plastic, two coats of primer and three coats of yellow brought the launch gantry to life. A super fun model to build, highly recommended. As others have said, “Nostalgia in a box!”
