Description
PREORDER: 1:220 Scale. Your Atlantis model kit is designed for general use in waterfront dioramas. While these may be generic models, their real-world counterparts have rich histories as vital parts of maritime commerce and service. Tow boats (or pusher tugs) are commonly used on inland waterways, like the Mississippi River system, to push barges connected into long strings. Mississippi River towboats are the powerful workhorses of the U.S. inland waterways, primarily pushing massive strings of barges rather than towing them. A single tow can push up to 64 barges—covering over 9 acres and spanning longer than the largest aircraft carriers. The Lower Mississippi is wider and deeper, allowing single boats to push as many as 30 to 40 barges. On the Upper Mississippi, boats are restricted by locks and dams, capping their standard size at 15 barges. There are approximately 3,700 to 3,800 towboats navigating the Mississippi River System, moving about 75% of all exported U.S. grain and an immense amount of bulk cargo. Kits included decal and display stand and measures 5 inches long.
