North Carolina was the first of the Navy’s modern fast battleships and entered the Pacific in 1942. Today, the real battleship is preserved in Wilmington, North Carolina, as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to more than 11,000 North Carolinians who gave their lives during World War II.
